Another week. Another update.
Writing Challenge—Shut up and write 2023
Goal 2 – Complete the 12 chapters of The House by the end of February.
Today is the last day of February, and I missed my February goal for my #shutupandwrite2023 #writingchallenge (;ꏿ︿ꏿ). I am still stuck in chapters seven and eight, so only six chapters are done, and the target was twelve.
I could blame my part-time return to my day job, being a magnet for mini disasters—cut finger, broken water mains, smashed car—but all that is only a part of the picture. The main issue is the KDP paperback edition … the format does not work at all, and the alternatives are very limited.
So the print editions need a complete re-think, and with that comes a complete overhaul of how I will go about print editions and book marketing. More about this soon!
On a brighter note, I have a completed rough draft for The House, and the first revised draft is now just above 87k words. Target is between 100 and 120k.
So there are things to celebrate!
Yay!
Progress in numbers
Words written in 2023 — 23,150 words
January — 15,650 words
February — 7,500 words
The House, first draft — 87,200 words
