The first writing update in ages and #drumroll … writing has happened!
Revisions on the House
Writing has happened! Mostly in a spreadsheet, though. The second revision got stuck once again in the dreaded middle of the manuscript, and I had to accept that more developmental changes are necessary.
… 💔 … (Cue the sound of a breaking heart.)
So, I returned to my trusty spreadsheet and reviewed every character, location, event, and scene to determine if they are ‘part of the wood’ or ‘part of the path’.
I borrowed this idea from Philip Pullman’s exceptional collection of essays, Daemon Voices: On Stories and Storytelling. The wood represents the world you create, and the path is the journey your story takes through it. Anything that isn’t on the path or relevant to staying on it must go.
I made some difficult decisions—letting go of beloved secondary characters and some fantastic locations. However, I believe this will help me navigate the middle and finally reach the much-needed line edits!
