What on earth just happened?
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
When I look back at 2024, I have three distinct impressions: black holes I’d rather avoid, gaps I’d rather not probe, and a few major achievements glowing in the spaces between. There is no reason to look back at the ugly other than by taking lessons forward, so let’s get the bad out of the way, to celebrate the little and not-so-little wins.
The Bad
Writing and publishing one book does not make the next one easier. Not one bit.
- Not only did the 2024 release of The House, The Spheres Book 2 not happen, I still can’t commit to a release date other than ‘2025’.
2024 brought other woes, some expected, some unexpected. The only one worth mentioning here is
- I irretrievably fell out of love with social media.
The Good
- I had my first solo show in a decade
- I published a local print edition of The Fragments, The Spheres Book 1
- I can now sell eBooks and print books from my website
- Book 3 sparked to life with a 10k outline.
I fought an uphill battle pretty much for all of these, and I am proud of the outcome of each.
I’ve launched a series on my blog about Artists, Writers and AI—my musings on how artists and writers can use AI without losing what makes their art uniquely theirs and distinctly human.
Five lessons I’m taking into 2025
I am the last person to give advice on anything other than how not to do things, but if I learned anything this year it is this:
- Invest in the long game
- Know yourself
- Be fearless
- Ride the wave
- Make sure you are okay
More about these lessons in the next post.
Farewell to 2024
Wishing you all a 2025 full of joy and creativity.
