#JustCheckingIn, February 2026

Equally speechless, thankful, and exhausted.

In February, everything not-art had to take a backseat to get artwork ready for the Wellington Art Show.

Art

I was equally speechless, thankful, and exhausted after the wonderful opening night and the weekend at the Wellington Art Show.

Getting ready for the show was no small feat. The day before the installation, I was ready to question my life choices. Painting does not come easily to me, and I felt only one new painting and one watercolour were strong enough to hang. Luckily, both fit perfectly between the remaining artwork from 2025 and the new papier-mâché sculptures. Then the opening night was here, and I am very grateful for all the kind words and sales, especially in the current economic climate.

So, what’s next? In March, I’ll be busy getting more work ready for an upcoming group show at Quirky Fox and making more artwork for my fantastic stockist while hoping to have some time to slow down and reset.

Writing

The writing side of things has been quietly ticking along in the background, too.

The work on the audiobook edition of The Fragments is coming along and I am quietly confident that I’ll have it ready for an April release. The paperback interiors for The House are done but are still missing the maps and illustrations—a release in April still seems feasible. Work on Book Three will start in May, and I’ll keep you up to date on how that’s going.

Renovations

Amidst all the show prep chaos, I also chipped away at the ever-growing list of small tasks. Breaking tasks into small daily steps works well, and I’ll continue to clear the list before tackling anything major.

February and the Art Show have come and gone. I am still standing — and, just maybe, I can slow down and find a healthier rhythm.

Until next month (づ ᴗ _ᴗ)づ♡

New here? I write adult fantasy that sits somewhere between dystopia, post-apocalyptic fiction, and science fiction—complex, a little dark, unapologetically nerdy.
I’ve published two books in a trilogy called The Spheres—The Fragments (2022), The House (2025)—and am working on Book Three. If you enjoyed this post, why not sign up to my newsletter?
