minu in Stuffed Magazine, Winter 2011

In July 2010 Stuffed Magazine invited me to submit a set of creatures for an article in their Winter 2011 issue. I was thrilled and so the Bear, Schlaf and the Viech were joined by the Shadow Girl and the Shadow Bunny on their adventurous journey to California.

A couple of days ago I got the final proof that their journey came to a good end: my complimentary copy of Stuffed Magazine! Yay.

Minu in Extra Curricular Issue 4

Extra Curricular Issue 4 is out now and includes a mini printmaking showcase.

‘Extra Curricular is put together in Auckland, New Zealand by Ellie Smith & friends. It is for and about people doing exciting side projects in their spare time. Extra Curricular is published tri-annually’ (quote extracurricularmag.blogspot.com ).

I was approached by Extra Curricular a couple of month ago and asked if I could provide some background info on intaglio printmaking. I was happy to do so ^_^…

… as well as providing some info about myself and why I focus on printmaking.

If you want to get your fingers dirty you can have a look at the Inverlochy Art School’s program.

You can buy Extra Curricular online at felt or see local stockists on extracurricularmag.blogspot.com.

Many thanks to Elli for having me!

The Bear Featured on Ohdeedoh.com

Ohdeedo, “the site for people who care about good design, but happen to have children.” asked  “Where are the Teddy Bears?” and if they are not cool enough for the modern nursery anymore. Well… they answered their question the same day in their ‘Cool Teddy Bear Roundup’ and decided… the minu Bear actually is cool enough!

Now, he personally likes to hear that but he is not sure if there is some honey in it for him ^_^.

Thanks guys!

New Miyu Prints 2010

I have been thinking about continuing the Miyu series for a long time. The image of those peaceful girls, constraint in layers and layers of cloth is ever present in my mind.

I always saw those as a symbol for being caught in layers of expectations and self restraint. Like being caught and stuck, not able to act anymore, only the hair – as a kind of spiritual manifestation – still able to move or be moved – a very personal statement of my last years in Germany.

Funnily enough the first people who viewed the prints in 2006/7 saw something totally different in them. The girls were protected, securely wrapped, warm and peaceful…

The first drypoint experiments were received very positive by friends, so I felt encouraged to pick up the work again.

I hope you enjoy them…

The first 2 prints are available online at etsy, felt and dawanda

Miyu – Shhh… No.5 and Shhh… No.6  Are now available online on minu.felt.co.nz* for $60.00 NZ, on minu.etsy.com** for $58.00 US and on minu.dawanda.de*** for €80.00!

The Bear is now available online on minu.felt.co.nz* for $60.00 NZ, on minu.etsy.com** for $36.00 US and on minu.dawanda.de*** for €32.00!

The bear is the perfect companion. He is cuddly and cute, listens patiently, is generous with hugs and sometimes – very rarely though – he shares his pot of honey.

These handmade cuties are about 26 cm tall. The fabric is a very special, fluffy and cuddly straight pile cotton, the stuffing 100% Polyfill. The little face and paws are wool felt with machine stitched eyes and nose.

They won’t go in the washing machine, but a bath in cold water with shampoo is fine. Never ever bring them near a dryer.

Height: 26 cm (10.2 inch)
Fabric: cotton (wool felt)
Filling: 100% Polyfill

Hand-wash in cold water only
Do not tumble
Do not dry

Awoke paper cuts at cafe32 Wellington, April 12 to 16, 2010

‘Sleeping under the trees’ – paper cut detail

Cafe32, 32 The Terrace, Wellington hosts another minu mini exhibition from April 12 to 16, 2010. 2 brand new paper cuts from the awoke series are on display and available for $280 NZ.

What would I do without the local support here in Wellington?! Many thanks again to Marg and Own the lovely owners of cafe32. We are planing to do this regularly every 6 to 8 weeks. This is a awesome occasion for me to present new work and a challenge to get things done.

The moon rose over the sea – paper cut framed

The artwork is drawn by hand in ink and water colour, scanned and digitally processed. The scene is printed in layers using a Giclée fine art printer and digital water colour paper. The different layers are cut and assembled in a ‘frame-box’.
Giclée is a high quality ink-jet print using a special print head and 9 pigment based inks. It is often used in galleries and print shops. The prints have brilliant, lightfast colours and the paper is archival.
